What's new at poodlepedigree.com?
poodlepedigree.com now supports images! You can host an image on photobucket.com and create a link to it, and the image will show up right on the pedigree page. Each pedigree page will display only one image. Because of this, I anticipate there may be some problems, if people disagree on what image should be shown for a particular dog. The image feature is offered experimentally only, at this time. If it causes too much contention, I may remove it, or I may restrict its access to a set of known, trusted users.
When you link an image for a dog, your name will be displayed on the pedigree page as the person who linked the image. I did this so that there would be some extra accountability for linking an image, and also so that if the owner or breeder links an image, other people will hopefully respect their image choice and not modify it.
Can you link an image for a dog you did not breed or own? Absolutely, especially if there is no image linked for that dog already. But if you do this, please try select a flattering image for the dog if more than one is available. And please exercise great caution in modifying somebody else's image link. It will not take much abuse for me to remove or restrict access to this feature.
Why photobucket? Well, it seems to work perfectly as an image host and I don't have the space right now to host images myself. But be aware that because I am not storing the images directly on the site, there is no guarantee that a linked image will continue to work indefinitely. Please consider the linked images to be temporary, even though all other information on the site is meant to be stored forever. In fact, if I ever implement self-hosting of images, the images linked through photobucket may be lost and may need to be re-uploaded to the site. Again, this is an experimental feature.
