A history on how this database came to be:
I am a Golden Retriever person who loves Poodles. We owned
a wonderful white Andechez miniature Poodle in the late 80’s early 90’s. Poochie
was the love of my young son’s life. They were inseparable and Michael was
devastated when his Poochie died.
Michael asked that I not get another Poodle at that time
because he would not be able to bear it and I respected his wishes.
Two years ago I decided Michael is a grown person now and
that we should have another Poodle, so off I trekked to Detroit for
“Arnold”.
Now my son has another Poodle to love and
we all love Arnold.
Maria joined
our family almost 3 years ago.
Michael is frequently heard criticizing me for having
Goldens instead of “superior” Poodles.
For years I have had the opportunity to do pedigree
research for Golden Retrievers on
www.k9data.com
When I bought Arnold I naturally wanted to research his
pedigree. That was when I found out there was no online database for Poodle
pedigrees. Shocked doesn’t cover the emotion I felt upon discovering this fact.
During my searches for Poodle data I happened across Eva
Mitchell who expressed that she had been longing for an online Poodle Pedigree
database for years. Eva offered to “loan” me the data in her database if I would
put it online.
I found Pedigree Central
http://www.alfirin.net/pedigree-central/ which is a wonderful resource for
people who want to be able to access the pedigrees for their breed.
The database I put online with the Alfirin software was a
wonderful resource for Poodle fanciers but it left me with many hours of data
entry for all the changes and additions that needed to be made.
I decided that I would try and get the Poodle database
online as a “live” database like
www.k9data.com
This was not an easy undertaking, but
thanks to Amy Raby for selling me a license to her scripts and my having to
learn about MS SQL databases and .asp scripts, I managed to do it!
The rest, as they say, is history!
